Exploring the theme of burlesque and the comic potential of choreographic art, Christian and François BEN AÏM’s latest piece, discovered this summer at Les Hivernales – CDCN in Avignon, has more than one trick up its sleeve. Served by six performers in great shape, these JESTS cultivate the apparently disjointed and unstructured while they are in fact highly chiseled and drawn to the chord. Adorned in their finest finery, made of sequins and rhinestones, this extravagant sextet invites us to their cleverly orchestrated follies. The references to the world of classical dance are numerous, and we find ourselves laughing heartily while saluting the prowess. Each one reveals comic resources sometimes without great demonstrative effects, just by their ability to bring out the poetic oddity in the bend of a gesture or an attitude.
